Fellow Yacht Club members, I am Mark Giebelhaus, the current Club Commodore. Since most of you probably don't know me I will let you know a little about myself. My wife Terry and I have a 340 Sea Ray in a slip at Wahweap Marina. We are long time boaters and think Lake Powell is the most beautiful place on earth. I am a mechanical contractor in Phoenix and have been in business since 1982.
Being on the Club board of directors for the last few years, I have had the opportunity to work closely with Immediate Past Commodore Taggart Rogers on the ARAMARK moorage agreement issue. As you have seen from the communication we have been sending you, your club is seriously addressing the issue of the moorage rate increase as well as the moorage agreement. As Commodore, I will continue on that mission. The boaters on Lake Powell deserve a fair moorage agreement and we will continue to work toward that end.
Although by no means can we claim total responsibility, the yacht club played an important part in successfully stopping the proposed annexation by Page of Wahweap and Antelope Point marinas. That annexation would have cost us boaters much more in sales taxes on all our purchases and slip fees at the lake.
Your club has developed a great working relationship with the Wahweap marina management over the last two years. Specifically, Mike Walsh, Water Operations General Manager, who has been very generous in working with the club to be able to park a houseboat at the Wahweap Marina for the club's various social events.
Speaking of social events, the next one is the Memorial Day Weekend Social, May 22 through 25, 2009. I look forward to seeing you there. You can find more information about our social events by clicking on the "Events" link at the top of this page.
One last thing, in order to be able to communicate more efficiently with the membership, I have embarked on a mission to acquire your current email addresses. For those of you for whom we have current email addresses, you have received several emails from me already on topics ranging from the rate increase to photos of the work being done at the cut. Please send an email to Gary Yantis at
